One month? Yeah, that is such a long time from now. Not!
No, serious, in about one month, I will be starting the art and beauty, the hobby and the glory that is Beekeeping! I cannot begin to tell you how excited I really am!!! Serious, I am so excited about raising and keeping bees, I even bought my starter kit yesterday. It came with a beekeeper hat, some really long gloves, a smoker, a metal hive tool and my beehive, which consists of the stand, the bottom board, the deep box, the inner cover and the outer cover. For any of you now reading this, I highly recommend Miller Bee Supply out here in Chase, Maryland, right down past Benji’s Drive-In in Essex. Buying these items from Dennis and his very sweet wife Geneva was a real treat and quite a bargain. In fact, I will be coming back next week to order my Italian Bees and to buy a couple more items to get started. Google them when you get a chance if you’re interested in seeing some good prices.
As for this blog, it is an experiment. And like any successful experiment, it will require time, patience, learning, testing, but most important, proper documentation. I will be writing on this blog every time I do some work with the bees, so you can have an idea as to how easy it is, how much work it requires, any tips that may come along and what you need to get started.
Of course, I do not expect a big payout for this newly discovered hobby. It seriously is not about the money, but rather the honey that I hope to reap in the months that lie ahead. Also, since I live in an apartment, shout goes out to Mr. T for graciously donating the use of his yard for the beekeeping experiment of 2012.
I hope you will join me and leave comments and suggestions. I really am looking forward to sharing this adventure with you, wherever you may be and however you chose to read this.
Thanks for visiting and remember: Don’t Worry . . . Bee Happy!
